Good question and one I was asking myself tonight as I corresponded with some old students on Facebook. Where has the time gone?

Will we have an early spring? Punxsutawney Phil says no because he saw his shadow. Buckeye Chuck says yes because he didn’t see his. What to do? Whom to believe?
I’ll tell you whom to believe. I’m going with Buckeye Chuck. What do those crazy Pennsylvania groundhogs know anyway? Everybody knows that folks and animals from Pennsylvania are just not quite right. 🙂 Go Bucks!
So I’m breaking out the suntan lotion and swimwear as I write. Bring it on, baby!
And of course I would be remiss if I did not remind you that Groundhog Day falls on and stems from Candlemas. 😎
Christ did what he did in order to strengthen believers, for no one can redeem something which did not originally belong to him.
—Ambrosiaster, Commentary on Paul’s Epistles
Come, my Light, and illumine my darkness.
Come, my Life, and revive me from death.
Come, my Physician, and heal my wounds.
Come, Flame of divine love, and burn up the thorns of my sins, kindling my heart with the flame of thy love.
Come, my King, sit upon the throne of my heart and reign there.
For thou alone art my King and my Lord. Amen.
—Dimitri of Rostov (17th century)
There is in the inner person a kind of daily quarrel; a praiseworthy battle acts to keep what is better from being overcome by what is worse. The struggle is to keep desire from conquering the mind and to keep lust from conquering wisdom. The better part in you…is that part in which God’s image is found. This is called the mind, the intellect. There faith burns, there hope is strengthened, there charity is kindled.
—Augustine, Sermon 53A.12
O Lord, from whom all good things do come; grant to us your humble servants, that by your holy inspiration we may think those things that be good, and by your merciful guiding may perform the same, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
—The Gelasian Sacramentary
For what is asked of you, O man? Only that you fear God: seek him, walk after him, follow in his ways.
—Ambrose, Flight from the World 6.33
